Dr. Beamer graduated from East Carolina University School of Medicine in 1991. After graduation, Dr. Beamer completed his residency in Family Medicine in Casper, Wyoming. Upon completion of his residency in 1994, Dr. Beamer moved to Belhaven, NC and began his career in Family Medicine. In 2000, Dr. Beamer moved to Montana for two years. In 2002, Dr. Beamer felt a need to return to the Belhaven area where he could once again practice rural medicine. He opened Pungo Family Medicine in November 2002.

Pungo Family Medicine has expanded over the years and now resides in its current building on Allen Street. In 2008, the practice doubled in size with the addition of new exam rooms, a procedure room, sick and well waiting areas, and expanded front office and nurse’s station.

March 1, 2011, Dr. Beamer welcomed Amanda Laughlin, Adult Nurse Practitioner, to Pungo Family Medicine. Ms. Laughlin is a recent graduate of East Carolina University with a Master of Science Degree in Nursing. Amanda also holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and an MBA in Healthcare Administration from ECU. She is excited about working in a rural Eastern North Carolina community as she and her husband, Seth, enjoy the water and a spending time in their boat. Amanda has a genuine excitement for rural medicine and looks forward to providing quality healthcare services, along with Dr. Beamer, to individuals and families of Beaufort, Hyde, Washington and surrounding Counties.

Pungo Family Medicine strives to provide these quality healthcare services for the entire family by offering a variety of primary care services. These services include medical treatment of illness and disease, preventive health services for all ages, colonoscopy services, office surgical procedures, dermatological procedures, laboratory services, patient and community education, and prenatal services. Routine screenings include school, sports, pre-employment, and DOT physicals.

Pungo Family Medicine is staffed with 6 full-time employees, in addition to the two providers, Dr. Mark Beamer and Amanda Laughlin, NP-C.
